Two places and one material explores the relationship between two cities, London and Seville, by responding to a specific site through the use of one material and several works of visual imagery and sound.
The material chosen to ‘lead the journey’ between these two cities is the carpet because of its ever presence in the London interiors and its notoriously absence and rejection in Seville. While the audio composition changes from hard to relaxed sounds, the carpet takes on 2 and 3 dimensional forms.
On one hand the use of the carpet is challenged by applying it unconventionally (on vertical surfaces and to obtain functional objects), on the other hand its symbolic value of representing a certain city, has been borrowed to represent another. These appropriations have been articulated via a sensorial journey with the aim of engaging in an alternative dialogue that brings closer two distant places.
